Fire & Smoke Field Evidence

Future fire and smoke cases should teach the reasoning chain—not merely display the job.

This schema extends the SDM Field Case Library so real fire/smoke work can become reusable evidence without turning a photograph into a claim it cannot support.

Fire/Smoke field evidence schema

Every future fire case should preserve the evidence chain—not just the before-and-after image.

Incident

Event context, timing, occupancy, source area and known suppression activity.

Safety

Observed hazards, restricted areas and professional referrals without making licensed conclusions.

Residue

Location, visual character, transfer behavior, odor intensity and test-area response.

Material

Assembly, finish, porosity, heat effect, moisture and access condition.

Migration

Doors, openings, vertical paths, cavities, HVAC state and remote-area observations.

Action

Source control, protection, cleaning, selective removal, specialty handling or later sealing.

Verification

Post-cleaning observations, odor checks, recontamination, HVAC-cycle response and unresolved uncertainty.

Evidence limits

What each photo, reading or observation establishes—and what it does not establish.

Photo evidence

A photograph can establish visible residue, charring, equipment placement, access, exposed assemblies or work-zone conditions. It does not automatically establish chemical composition, structural capacity, air quality, moisture content or complete affected extent.

Test evidence

A wipe, cleaning test, meter reading or inspection point should retain its location, method, context and limitations. One successful test area does not prove every material or room will respond the same way.

Outcome evidence

Completion should distinguish documented results from expectations: what was re-checked, what improved, what remained, what was removed, and what required specialist or reconstruction follow-up.

Reuse inside SDM Intelligence

Once validated, a field record can support educational explanations and incident reasoning while preserving the same evidence limits everywhere it appears.
