SDM Intelligence Guide
Different flooring materials respond very differently to water.
Hardwood may sometimes be dried, laminate often swells, carpet depends on source and exposure, and every system can hide moisture below the surface.
Recommended actions
- Identify the flooring type
- Document swelling, cupping, seams, or odor
- Avoid covering the area
- Evaluate pad, underlayment, and subfloor
- Begin controlled drying when appropriate
What to avoid
- Uncontrolled heat
- Sanding wood before dry
- Assuming the surface represents the subfloor
- Using ordinary household vacuums on contaminated water
