The 24–48 hour idea is guidance, not a timer
Public guidance often emphasizes drying wet materials quickly, commonly within roughly one to two days when practical. That does not mean growth begins at exactly one fixed hour or that all materials behave identically.
Temperature, prior contamination, material type and hidden moisture can accelerate or slow observable growth.
